Ajaya is a small village in Gajapati district of Odisha. People in the village are mostly engaged in farm, small scale trade and livestock rearing. This village has an old cultural heritage. The place has been visited by many scholars, thinkers and philosophers owing to its culture. Many legends have been associated with this place throughout time . There are many places of worship built here which attracts people equally from remote parts of the country to visit Ajaya every year on occasion called Bhaja Panaisai or Bhaja Panaisai Mela . It is celebrated with great enthusiasm in all four temple complexes located at different places . The main places of worship are :- Bajrangbaan is a temple complex, which is about two kilometer east of Ramchandi Temple. Ramchandi Temple is the only temple in Odisha which is dedicated to goddess Ramachandi, daughter of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. This temple was built in 11th century during vikram Samvat by the Chauhan ruler Singhanarayan. There are several small temples in the premises of Bajrangbaan. The main temples are Radha Krishna, Ganesa, Hanuman and Mukteswar Temple . Bajrangbaan temple complex has many attractive features like artistic carvings on walls and pillars . It is famous for the idol of Bajrangbaan near the main temple within the complex. Temple renovation work was achieved around six decades ago. This historical temple is located in a village called Sambharani situated about 12 km from Athagarh Block. The main temples are Sun God, Radha Krishna, Kali and Lakshmana . It is said that a King named Purushottam Deo built this temple in the early 15th century. A Sal tree presents a wonderful sight as it spreads its gigantic branches over an area of about two acres of land . There are two temples on both side of this tree - Pratima Devi Temple and Nanda Devi Temple . A fair is celebrated here every year on the occasion of Sivaratri and Tihar. This temple is located in a small village named Bada Bandar. The main temple is Radha Krishna and it has three domes . It was built by Goswami Satyananda Saraswati . The statues of Radha and Krishna are very beautiful. There are several other temples. A large number of people visit this place to worship lord Krishna during Janmastami festival or Naba Ratri . During the month of Kartik, a large fair known as "Jatra" is organized here for eight days. This temple is about fourteen kilometers away from Bhangaon block. This temple is situated at the bank of Mahanadi river. The temple has five statues of Lord Krishna . The main statue is Lord Ganesa , followed by Lord Jagannath , Lord Balabhadra , Lord Maheshvara and lord Subhadra . This temple is located 15 km away from the town Athagarh. This place is large in size and well maintained. There are many temples in this place which attract people.
